What is menstrual cycle syncing fitness?

As you move through your menstrual cycle your hormones, energy levels and metabolism are changing, meaning that exercise will affect your body differently as you move through your cycle. We recommend different types of movement throughout your menstrual cycle to get the most out of your fitness training. Click here to find out more.

What are the benefits of syncing my workouts to my menstrual cycle?

Hitting high intensity workouts during certain phases of your menstrual cycle can stress your body, leading to fat storage and muscle wastage. Therefore tailoring your movement choices to your menstrual cycle can result in a more efficient way of training with greater physical results and can decrease period-related symptoms such as cramps. Can I sync my workouts to my menstrual cycle if I'm on the contraceptive pill or implant?

The contraceptive pill and implant both change the level of natural hormones that the body makes; they prevent your body from making the hormones that initiate ovulation and menstruation. This means that your hormones won't fluctuate in the same way that they do with a natural cycle. However, if you do want to feel more in tune with your body and reap the rewards of balancing life through the phases then absolutely cycle sync. In short, there's no need to cycle sync if you're on the pill, but you can if you want to.

Can I sync my workouts to my menstrual cycle if I'm using the coil as contraception?

The coil doesn't affect your hormones in the same way that the pill or contraceptive implant do, therefore your hormones will still fluctuate according to your natural cycle. This means that menstrual cycle syncing would be an effective way to train if you are using the coil.

How do I know which phase of my menstrual cycle I'm in?

If my periods are irregular, how do I sync my workouts to my cycle?

If you have an irregular menstrual cycle, we recommend calculating your average cycle length and tailoring your workouts in line with that.

Are pre and post natal workouts available on BKA Club?

We currently have a variety of pre and post natal friendly workouts available on BKA Club, however our full range of workouts will be launching in September. Follow us on Instagram for updates.

Can I exercise when I'm pregnant?

Yes! Unless you've been advised otherwise by a medical professional then you should absolutely exercise throughout your pregnancy. We have a full bank of pre and post natal workouts coming in September- sign up to our newsletter at the bottom of this page to keep updated.

I'm worried to exercise during my pregnancy, is it safe?

Exercise during pregnancy is safe, as long as you are exercising in the right way for your body during this time of change. We have a selection of pre and post natal friendly workouts on BKA Club with a whole bank of pre and post natal specific workouts coming soon. Please do not exercise during pregnancy if you have been specifically advised not to by a medical professional.

What are the benefits of exercising during pregnancy?

Exercise can help to strengthen your body during your pregnancy and labour, as well as aiding quicker recovery during your post natal period. It also has other known benefits such as improved sleep, lifting your mood and energy levels and is thought to have health benefits for your baby too.
